Peds
Rx is a handy pediatric formulary calculator for Palm OS handhelds. It contains over
160 commonly used drugs. (Actual drugs, not trade name and
generic equivilants) It contains over 540 different dosing
regimens for those drugs.
Drug
dosing regiments are listed. The program calculates doses based
on both the patients weight and the dosing interval. It gives
you actual divided doses based on weight. This avoids tedious
calculations and the chance for calculation error.
Drug
formulations are listed to aid the clinician in choosing the
proper drug form. It also decreases call backs from pharmacies
for incorrectly written prescriptions.
The
formulary contains both pediatric and adult dosing and can
be used for patients from neonatal to adult.

Detail
This
screen shows the drug detail. It contains most of the prescribing
information, making it fast and convenient to use. A selector
allows you to choose the appropriate dosing regiment for your
particular patient. Pregnancy, lactation, and renal dosing
guidelines are listed, and defined. A keypad and lb <-> kg
converter speed patient weight entry. The daily dosing regiment
and the calculated weight based dose are listed side by side
for comparison and verification. Formulations are listed for
the appropiate regiment selected (IV vs PO). A notes link provides
more information. (See below) The calculator multiplies weight
by dose and divides by frequency. Users must pay attention
to maximum doses listed, and not give doses greater than the
maximum or listed adult doses, unless otherwise noted.
